    Is this a good idea?

They tuned it for economy after deleting the DPF and it gave a 3.0Tdi an extra 10-12mpg and +35bhp

What will happen when it gets plugged in at a dealer (although its out of warranty) - one for A8Tech i guess!

Ahh just a few things on this...I was considering this too..and was told to beware. Few things to watch out for:

    Bad Points:

    1. If the dealer plugs it in and updates the firmware on the ECU,you can kiss goodbye to the DPF delete software modification as its not an official audi software change. This could cost you a lot to get put "right" whatever that may be...

    2. Although its a good idea...the MOT is apparantly due to change in the near future and it states something on the lines of if a car is built with a DPF its expected to be present and working (Emissions probe will find this maybe?). If this fails an MOT..you can expect a nice big bill for fitting a whole new DPF system to the car again.

    3. Black nasty soot comes out of your exhaust again...

    Good points:

    4. Apparantly some remapping companies have got up to 300bhp out of the current generation 3.0TDi and bag-loads of torque with it! Maybe you will find an MOT tester that doesnt care or something...I dont know :P.

I decided not to bother for now..at least whilst the car is under warranty. On a side note, I do believe the next generation cars are being re-vamped and they will be working on a 300bhp+ bi-turbo version of the 3.0tdi

Just my two cents, hope it helped

Sorry, just had to wipe the drool out of my keyboard ...

Wonder if they would make that available across the range, or just in something equivalent to a "DS4", though I don't suppose Citroën would be to impressed with Audi using that name!

Correct! Due to be released when the new A6 Avant is being released.

When I had an A4 out on loan felt that the 3.0 TDi was quicker than my A6 purely down to weight. Imagine a twin turbo 3.0 TDi in the A4!

    That'll be fun!!

I understand the performance benefits, but if a DPF is fitted at factory you really ought to be thinking twice before removing it.

There's going to be a lot of unhappy faces when (not if, imho) the new MOT regulations come into force.

The DPF, imho, ought to be considered to be of the same importance as a catalytic convertor - although every boy racer and his dog's removing them too.

An interesting read I found was here :

    http://www.sinspeed.co.uk/blog/tag/dpf-removal-mot-law/

"smoke correction service" offered as part of the package - I'm intrigued as to how this works.

Im fairly sure that I'll be ordering the bi-turbo 3.0tdi when its out . I've left my Dpf on...if its not giving any problems, why bother removing it? and if it is..get it fixed under warranty! (Assumption: no-one here drives purely around town on silly stop-start journeys).

    -Andrew

Further sidenote: If your new car has ad-blue injection in the exhaust and you remove the DPF...you're likely to screw the NOx catalyst, as I understand it has a catalyst inside that is very pourous and gets easily clogged by soot.

In my opinion if you are thinking of removing the DPF you probably bought the wrong car in the first place.

As far as I can see, the new DPF setup is fairly benign now so why take the risk.

Umm, I never said I was going to do it but was just asking if drilling out a dpf and reprogramming the ecu was a good idea (it doesnt sound great to me although it sounds like there are some plus points)

As an aside, i dont buy into choosing the wrong car. I chose a 170bhp diesel estate car. I dont think we should have to put up with randomly flashing heater coil lights which no one at audi seems to be able to diagnose. I dont drive like a granny and have never been prompted to regenerate the dpf.

Why I asked the question originally is because owning this car out of warranty (it only has 4 months left) worries the hell out of me when you hear of people being charged £1500 for new dpfs.
