    Hello guys.

My exhaust system fault light came on yesterday so i've had the codes read this morning. The guy at the garage said a couple of faults came up. One relating to a fault with the cooling fans and another (which he believes triggered the warning lamp) that reads.....

12547 motor for intake manifold flap.

Can anyone help me with this one. Will it be an easy fix for a DIY'er?

Any help will be much appreciated.

I just had my intake manifold runners changed under warranty yesterday/today and it takes a full working day (on my car anyway) and if it wernt under warranty it would cost ££££.

Not sure how much it would be on a Golf but make sure you're sitting down when you hear the price cos it won't be cheap.

After having a search on here I have found several threads relating to this problem. I am wondering though, if i could be experiencing something a little different, as my car doesn't display Warning "Emissions Workshop". And the scan code that is coming up seems to be different to others posted.

    I'm getting..... 12547

others appear to be getting......19557 or 19558

Can anyone shed any light on this for me. Or is it just likely to be the same problem??

    Thanks again.

I've had a look today. I un-clipped the pipe and reached into the unit with my finger and i can feel that the flap is open when the engine is off. I can move the flap to the closed position and when i release it, it opens back up under the force of the spring.
The flap moved pretty easily with some resistance and certainly wasn't stuck or sticking in any way.

Does anyone have any advice please?

The fuse for the intake manifold flap motor is shared with the cooling fans - the flap motor is faulty causing the fuse to blow, quite a common fault tbh.

Replace the intake manifold flap motor (no 11 in pic) and fit a new fuse and clear the fault codes.
