I'm a gearbox software update at my next service. Now I've just heard that included in this update is a lock protection for the ecu like the 2010 cars. So of you have a remap your going to loose it and out will be harder to install. You have been warned!

What gearbox is this? Wonder if it covers both Tip & Multi boxes?

Can you verify this and what was your source?

My friend is a tuner and he informed me this week about these new updates when I mentioned my multi gearbox getting a software update. He has come across a couple already. Bmw seems to be doing this too for the last little while.

Hope my update does not have this. I was going to buy a bluefun this week too. Going to wait and see what happens about the update as it won't work if audi locks the ECU

P.S Chris did you get a chance to look at you ambient lights for part numbers yet?

    lock protector ?????????????

any workshop actions can only be carried out with customer approval, so if you have chip tuning just decline the update

there is no lock command but the files are overwritten by the server downloading specific sw for hardware and software part numbers

if you dont know if its chipped as the dealer to run svm check the check the build data spec after this and it will show ecu alterations by third party

information shows time/date and mileage of the remap

all edc have security access but isn't that what re mappers overcome to change the files !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke to another guy I know who also remaps ecu's and he didn't agree that audio can lock the ecu a he said it does not have the trcore lock processor. Time will tell commends being updated on friday so I'll know more on sat when I pick up the car.

@A8. Would you agree with this?

fully agree, audi do not lock it out for legal reasons but they do warn owners that any alterations may be overwritten when factory software updates are run

the server checks the ecu and records the third party change but it does not do anything else

the update will run and if successful the ecu is changed as per factory command from the server or it fails and the ecu is wiped

if you me give the vehicle details and the reason i may be able to assist

is it a workshop action/recall or software adjustment for a specific complaint

if its a workshop action and you decline then the dealer just adds a note on the database that you declined the action and that is it

however if the workshop action is for a repair that may affect the engine/gearbox then i would suggest you allow it to run as future failures relating to this update may well invalidate the warranty for the suggested workshop action criterion
