I had the roof down on my A4 cabriolet yestereday and when I wanted to put it back up the mechanism wouldn't work, it lowered the windows slightly and unlocked the hatch on the back and stopped there. We used were able to manually put the roof back up when I got home and the mechanism seems to be doing the same for putting the roof down again, windows down a touch, and the hatch unlocks and it stops there. Most frustrating.

I took it to my usual mechanic this morning but he hadn't got a clue, neither did a local place specialising in auto electrics!

Anybody familiar with this issue before I have to resort to taking it to an Audi place, which I expect will be the most expensive option!

Battery fine, we did think that might be the issue but no, it doesn't appear to be the case. It's really annoying, I'm now also waiting for the audi place up the road to get back to me, they clearly aren't in any hurry.

I read of other problems where the battery was 'weak' not dead but not a full wack.

Ok, I,m here with the A4 B6 carboy roof problems. Mine is really winding me up.

I use the button to lower the roof, all four windows go down halfway, the front releases and raises up, the rear tension bow releases and raises up however the rear top box lid refuses to release, it moves forward a few mm but will not unlatch and raise. I then close the roof with the button and it all locks back into place. I have done the usual checks and full manual resets but no joy.

    1) I have removed and had the hydraulic pump motor checked and all is working perfectly.
    2) I swapped the pump motor solenoids around.
    3) I checked the rear right hand drivers side sensor in the hood and all is connected and working fine.
    4) Fuses checked and all ok.

Tried again to open the roof and it follows the same procedure with rear top box lid still refusing to open. Now, this seems to indicate a problem in the boot area so I changed the rear number plate light plinth for a new one as the key lock barrel was broken. The new one is installed, the number plate lights work and the soft touch lock works fine. I did notice that there was a black micro switch unit attached to the lock barrel mechanism but with no visible signs of actuation. I'm wondering if the key lock barrel unit operates this micro switch. There is a small metal ball attached to said barrel which turns, does this ball actuate the micro switch to tell the roof that the boot is closed therefore allowing the top box lid to open ? I refuse to take it to Audi and let them help themselves to the contents of my wallet. With a little logic and advice from you guys maybe we can solve this problem for everyone. I look forward to your opinions.
