Anyone know of a garage in the West Midlands that could read the fault codes on my 94 V6 Coupe ?? The economy is dismal (20-25mpg) at the moment and I have a feeling all is not well under me bonnet . . . . . .

    Alternatively what software/leads do I need ??

    Cheers in advance, mo

A fault code read will not pick up a temp sender or lambda sensor problem unless it is completely failed, they can be faulty without showing up on a fault code scan. They are the usual culprits for poor mpg, prob best to get a multi meter out in your case?:

If you decide to go for a VCDS lead, Rosstech have a 'free' version of their software for engine ECU fault code reads, VCDS lite. You usually need to purchase a licence to get the full functionality of the system. Leads come with a ODB2 interface (16 pin), you need to get an ODB1 (2 x 2) adaptor for use with the 80/coupe, something like these:

There are possibly cheaper options, but lambdas here:http://www.lambdasensor.com/main/bos...tem=0258003396

Temp sensor I guess approx £10-15 from ecp/gsf etc

It isn't hard to carry out the tests, I would if I were you?

Does the heater warm up in the usual time? thermostat stuck open would keep the engine cooler than it should be, temp sender then tells the ECU to keep the cold enrichment on

Bleedin nora they aint cheap, time to break out the multi meter.

Heater warms up ok and sits at 90C around town but cooler when on open roads, this seems to be normal to me.

    Cheers for the info

Lamda sensors are kicking out voltage nicely between 0 and 0.9V

    Temp sensor still to do
