    Morning,

Just had my local garage run a diagnostic check (emission light came on then off a few days ago) on a 2002 VW 1.8T GTI Golf 40,000miles and it cane back clear, ' no codes to read'. The mechanic asked me about the timing belt and said it may be a due a change. My thoughts were it was ok till 60,000 miles ?

Any ideas as to when it should be changed, mileage of 60,000 miles or the fact it is 5 years old ?

    Many thanks

It should tell you in your manual, but it is one if them thing that i would get changed cause for £300 or so, could save you so much money and time later on if it should snap. Five years sounds about right to have it changed. better be save then sorry.

4 years old is being looked on as the age limit now.

4 years or 60k is the advice....

your's is a 2002, so you're overdue by a year, my advice is to get it done ASAP.
