Ok bit of background story first,

Car was running a bit lumpy, i think due to maybe pulling some crap from the bottom of the fuel tank through the fuel system, usually i dont let the fuel run lower than 1/4 of a tank, but i run it almost dry, after that it run lumpy for a bit, stuck some cleaning fluid through it for the petrol, injection system etc, that sorted the lumpiness out.

Then i decided to give it a manual service, changed the Air filter and Plugs myself, took the throttle body casing off, cleaned the carbon deposits, bought 5ltr of Oil + Oil Filter with the intention of taking to my uncles yard, slapping it on blocks and doing an oil change.

Few days before i was due to give it an oil change, pulled away at the lights on the A228, heading onto the M20, i must admit i gave it a bit of welly down the slip road hehe, nothing too bad though, got onto the M20, everythings fine, turned onto the M26, approaching the Wrotham turnoff and i notice the temp light is on and the Temp Gauge is at 130c!! so i pulled over, popped the bonnet and waters bubbling out of the overspill on the water reservoir.

Let it cool down, and headed off again, same thing, overheated, and im stuck on the M26 with no option but to limp to clackett lane services, pulling over everytime the heat starts to rise. Got a recovery from Clackett Lane to my works yard, on the way the guy recovering me asked what happend, i explained, and he said *Sounds like your thermostats gone*.

I had the Thermostat replaced, still overheating, the water on the top hose from the Engine to the Radiator is hot, almost too hot to touch the pipe, the Radiator fans dont seem to be kicking in to cool the radiator, and the pipe from the radiator to the engine which contains the thermostat is cool to the touch.

I called a few garages and they said *sounds like your water pump* so ive gone ahead and bought a new Water Pump, while im at it, i'll have the Cam Belt changed too, so also bought a Cam Belt Kit. A Colleague at work has a SEAT Leon Cupra and has the VAGCOM software, he run diags on the car, come back with intermitent errors on Engine Coolant Temp Sensor, MAF, Throttle (2 Errors on Throttle).

Now the Throttle ones maybe because i cleaned the throttle casing and it hasnt re-learnt its new positions yet? MAF one, im told, may explain my car running lumpy, although it was fine after the service and after i put some cleaning fluid through it, and to remedy the Temp Sensor, ive bought a green 4 pin one to replace the existing blue top one.

What i wanna know is, has anyone else had similar issues? if so, what was the problem? Im praying it is the water pump only, the cars booked in Monday for the work to be done so i wont know til then anyhow.

    Regards

    Si

That is what it sounds like, as one pipe was cool and the other from the head was hot.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi I have a seat leon cupra 1.8 T. not so long ago mine overheated whenever i went up a hill or accelerated off lights, generally anywhere where i pressed my fun pedal. but when tootling around steady all was ok. it turned out to be my coolant pump. half of the propeller had broken off cos it's only plastic and half was still on hence why going steady it was able to cope and once i got moving it could'nt. hope that helps
