Loud clicking noise from seems like power steering pump??

Hi guys hows all??Just bought a 2001 130 a4 today and love it.After a couple of hours driving i noticed a squeel on acceleration.i applied some grease and wd40 to the belt and it dissapeared for a while but now is actually worse.Turned into a clicking noise and does it at standstill turning over now.My prob is where is it coming from.Seems like the power steering pump bearing is done but could it be the alternator pulley???Any help much appreciated guys.Dont want to install a new pump in case its the alternator pulley..Thanks.

Change the alternator pulley and see how it goes.

I'm with "Crasher" on this. It's more than likley to be the alternator pulley freewheel clutch about to fail. If youre very lucky it could be just the belt tensioner making weird noises. Up to five or six weeks ago I'd never seen this problem in the flesh. Then the wifes 2.5 TDi shredded it's belt! Followed within days by our other B5 a 1.9 TDi sounding like somone had rigged a miniture machine gun under the bonnet! Same problem, Alternator pulley. As a matter of course we replaced both the pulley and the tensioner along with the drive belt. Within a fortnight another two Audi A4's belonging to friends have suffered exactly the same problems. Just to balance things, I think that both of these were petrol engined models!

Sorted dudes turned out to be the power steering pump pulley.Wat a racket for somethin so small.Back to enjoyin the audi drive now.Thanks all...
