    Hi Guys,

New to the Forum, New to my Audi and new to Driving!!

Just picked up a 1999 A3 Sport 1.6 and I'm pretty chuffed with it. There are a few things irking me about it at the moment though, that I want to rectify quick-smart. In order of priority:

The Gear Stick Knob is missing it's cap. This looks to be a common problem with this model as I've seen some photos of others missing just the cap. I've been trawling ebay and the Internet all day trying to find a replacement and not having much luck using just image searches! Does anyone know what this part is, can I buy it by itself?

The Drivers Side window goes down but struggles to come back up. The guys that I bought it off said that they had fixed it but I'm not so sure. The also kindly left me with a spare door "Skeleton" (?) so either that's the old broken one and I have 2 broken doors or that's the new working one that they forgot to put in?! Either way I've found good instructions on how to sort this out and will do it myself soon.

The Next think is the Glove Box. At first I thought I could open it and that perhaps it was on a different Key and that this was a little dodgy. Today I realised my key did work but that the latch was just a bit tight. Anyway, I've wrenched the cover off and in the process inadvertently snapped the RHS mount in the bottom corner. Whoops! I think it was already pretty much gone though, probably due to the dodgy lock on it. Do I need to source another whole cover/lid/glovebox or can I just source the mounts on each corner?

The last one is the Stereo. Its the factory standard one and sound GOOOD!!! The only problem is that the potentiometer in the volume knob is busted and the slightest movement to turn it up or down ends up cranking it to pretty much full volume! a little disconcerting but fun, none-the-less. I'm probably going to replace this with a modern mechless head unit. Thinking about the Parrot Asteroid but all reviews that I've seen don't speak very highly of it.

So yeah, In summary; I'm mostly concerned with sourcing the Gear Knob cap and also a big Hello to all!

Gear knob cap - take a visit to your nearest main dealer. I can't see it being outrageously expensive. If it is, then ebay or find one in a scrapyard.

The window is likely to be one of the plastic clips in the mechanism, so you'll need to take the door panel off to see if the clips have cracked. It might just be that the runners need lubricating, so you could try a silicone spray lube first.

The glove box, I don't know about. Ask the parts man when you visit the dealer - he'll even show you the computer screen with the etka page that shows what parts are what.

The stereo volume thing I've heard is a common problem with Audi concert stereos, and I think it is caused by the controller only remembering 100,000 volume adjustments, then going either max or min. I think I've read that they can be reprogrammed / fixed, or you might have to replace it. If you have a search on here, I expect you'll find a thread about it.
