  1. New Proud Owner of a 2003 VW Passat TDI 130 SE. (Question on fuel consumption)

I am the new proud owener of a 2003 VW Passat TDI 130 SE.
The car has done approx 108,000 miles and gos like a dream. I have done some travelling on the motorway and has averaged approx 55 miles to the gallon according to the computer. However town travelling is averaging 27 miles to the gallon

How accurate is the computer? The car does come with a three month warranty Is there anything I should be looking out for?

    Hi David

Glad to see you are happy and there are plenty of people here willing to help...

I Have exactly the same model as you with 116k on the clock.. and i was averaging around town 45mpg and easy 55 on the motorway

Just recently i have be getting 50mpg around town and there are 3 things i have done recently 1) 4 wheel tracking but it was only slightly out... 2) Replaced gearbox oil for new thinner 75 - 80w as used by VW !! (Difficult changing gear) 3) Using millers diesel treatment to clean and boost engine...

The display is not so bad for reading but i find when i get down to the 60 miles warning i will put 4 gallons of fuel and wait till i get back to thee 60 mile warning message again .. do that 3 times and you should roughly see what you are achieving mpg

Now when was it last service ???

    Happy driving

Hi David, I've only had my 2005/54 plate a couple of months and I'm also delighted with it. I'm getting the same as you but low 30s in town. For me town driving is too variable in terms of traffic and speed to reach any useful conclusion on mpg and as it only represents say 2 to 3% of my miles I don't worry about how good or bad it is. I find my computer roughly 2.5mpg out on the last 3 tankfills - it shows 53.5 and it is 51.1. My speedo is only 2mph out at 80 mph according to the satnav so quite accurate compared to other cars I've had.
