I was about to upgrade from an petrol Octavia to a 07 Passat 140 TDI but having done few searches the fuel pump and injector issues have really scared me off. Obviously people only come onto these forums to asks about faults so is there any figures on the percentage of cars that are affected? Are any years worse that others?
I've not heard of the same issues with othe VW group cars that have the same engine, is it because of the amount of Passats out there or are VW just worse at sorting it out comapred to Audi, Skoda, Seat?

    Thanks

If you are upgrading from an 07 Octavia what year Passat are you looking at?
CR engines came in during 2008 and they do not suffer the injector and pump issues of the earlier PD unit.

We have a 2007 140 Passat in at the moment. We fitted a new injector (genuine) over a year ago and it has failed again so we took it to VW to have the injector replaced under warranty and the fuel pump failed whilst it was there. We asked them to get one and they told us there is no UK stock AGAIN! If you own a Passat 3C TDI that needs the new pump 3C0 919 050 AA, pray yours does not fail or you will be scrabbling around trying to find a pattern alternative such as from Pierburg but apparently these are also in short supply, I hope to be able to get one tomorrow to get the taxi back on the streets where it belongs

    It's an 07 Passat I'm looking at, my Octavia is a 2001.

I'm not sure I can afford a 2008 CR, having said it doesn't sound like I can afford to fix a 2007 when that goes wrong.

Ive done some 250k in Passats with 140 PD engines, and I have not had any fuel pump, injector or other engine related issues, these were with company cars. I have just purchased a 140 PD 06 passat, and had no hesitation in doing it either!

I also had a 2.0 140 PD company Passat Sport from new, did 146k miles in it, the fuel pump did go but this was the only time it ever let me down. The car was a 2005 with the BKP engine, so they can be reliable. The company I work for used several of these, all either 2005 but mostly 2006 model years, and all proved pretty reliable. I can't recall any of them needing an injector, turbo or any other major component replacing.

I have a 55 plate 2.0 tdi 140 p.d I have owned it for over a year now and its been 100% reliable. The best car I have owned

Just to throw a little cudos into the mix. Mrs Rappy has a Citroen C4 coupe 1.6 hdi VTR+. I remember joining there forum and it scared me reading about all of the problems they can have. I have never been back on there site since. And now the Citroen is 3 yrs old & I can report it has been 100% relaible. Just goes to show not all cars are the same .

I have an Skoda 140 pd engine with 47000 miles on the clock. Its a 55 plate Octavia. three weeks ago it just stopped. Its been at a main dealers for the last three weeks. They say the fuel is back pressuring with nothing getting to the cylinders but are working with Skoda uk and cannot come up with the fault. Nothing shows on the diagnestices so the head has been taken off and tested with no faults found. they now think it is a porous head at £1090 + vat. Can anyone help who has had a simular problem or a solution ?
