My 09 A4 is now due for its first oil change, first inspection due in another 12 months.

Ringing around the dealers it seems that just for the oil change its going to cost around £150, ouch!

Thought I read somewhere that the A4 only requires 4l for an oil change yet all the dealers are quoting for 5l, at £16 to £18/l it make a difference.

Anybody know just how much oil is required for an oil change to the B8 A4?

Supply your own oil. I can't recall if it's 4 or 5 L but check with your dealer and supply your own and you save heaps.

My dealer's fine with it. Just as well as my old S4 took 9L of fully synthentic which was £££.

sprint, you didn't say which engine...

For the 2.0T FSI it's listed as 4.6L for oil & filter.

    Thanks for replies.

I should have stated that it is a 2.0L TDi.

Will that be the same as the 2.0T FSi at 4.6l?

Audi dealer wanted £169 for just an oil change (2.0tdi), Skoda dealer charged £99 using VW synthetic oil, bit of a difference!

    Thanks for the reply.

It certainly is a considerable saving, £60.

However, I believe, that I am tied to having to have this first oil change done by an Audi dealer in order to maintain the 3yr breakdown cover?

As I understand it you only get the 3rd yr extension if an Audi dealer does the first oil change/service?

But certainly if I still have the car at the next service interval I will be shopping around, though I understand that Audi now do a special rate for privately owned cars over 36 months old?

That's true but you don't have to use their oil

My first oil service, admittedly it was a year ago, was £98 at the Audi dealers. Can't see why its gone up so much in the last year tho'?

Do you mean that you can buy and supply your own oil and they would only charge the labour cost, 1/2hr at about £120/hr?

The VW oil specified in the handbook is a lot cheaper than the oil that the Audi dealer supplies?

I don't really follow why the handbook specifies a particular VW oil yet they use a different much more expensive oil?
