If you don’t know it has been done I suggest you just do it and make sure you apply the sealant very carefully, yesterday I did one that had suffered a blockage due to excessive silicon being used and it was not the first time I have seen that. If you find the sides of the sump are covered in sludge, paint stripper is the ideal way to remove it. The sump in the picture was ditched when I took it off.

    Cheers Crasher,

Think im going to plan for the dealer to do it as the same time as an Oil change as I am wanting to keep the car within the network as its a fine example and has been to the dealer every 10k miles from day one, plus the oil change is due in 1k miles.

How much time would you expect / normally quote (time) for this type of job ?

    Cheers

    Rick

2 hours if cleaning out the old sump, it maybe worth asking them to fit a new sump due to their propensity for stripping their threads on the drain bung and they are not going to be keen on cleaning out the old one, a dealer history is not all it is cracked up to be…
