Your diagnostic acumen is astounding as are your powers of lateral thinking! There is an easier way to stop the brake light flashing ijust clean the connectors where they meet the brake pads. You could also bridge the connection where it connects to the brake pads with a paper clip but perhaps pulling and dismantling the dash is easier?

    To remove the cluster.

    1. Pull steering wheel all the way down and out
    2. Pull plastic/leather clip at bottom of cluster gently towards you.
    3. You will see 2x torq screws right underneath the cluster. Remove these.
    4. Pull whole cluster towards you. This might be tight but be patient it will come eventually.
(don't worry there is no cable or anything at the back of the cluster so nothing to break)
    5. Remove the outer casing by releasing the 6 clips.
    6. **Take note of needle location(or take a pic). Gentle pull needles out. If the don't come, just wiggle anti clockwise.
    7. Gentle take out dials, and then you will see the L.E.D's.
    8. Tape over, smash or whatever any warning light you don't like.
    9. Refit in reverse. Simples

the brake warning light, ok so that won't fail, but surely its better to fix the fault than remove the bulb ?
In Northern Ireland, the new mot cannot and does not fail you if you have NO airbag light on at all ( bulb taken out ) but will fail you if its on after the car is started. Stupid, I know but thats the government for you !

The new MOT guidelines in the UK means that the system has to go through its self test, i.e they are looking for the bulb to come on and then go off. If this dose not happen then it is a Failure. This goes for ABS, Airbag, ASR etc.

The problem is that if the light is staying on then surprisingly its trying to tell you that there is a fault with the system. Cusford I suggest that you invest in front seat dummy airbags as suggested earlier this will fool the system into thinking that an airbag unit is there and will extinguish the warning light.

Just quoting myself to say that I see it every week now. Cars WITH airbag lights disconnected, tin foiled over behind the dash or simply siliconed over and PASSING MOT. If its on, it will fail.... If its gone, it will pass

If the airbag light is on because the seats were changed and the replacement seats don't have airbags You can put a 5p resistor into the airbag plug and clear the fault. The light should then come on and go out

This is taken from the UK MOT Testers Manual

    5.4 Supplementary Restraint Systems (SRS)

    Reasons for rejection:

A Supplementary Restraint System Malfunction indication lamp that is:
    1/ Inoperative
    2/ Indicating a system Malfunction

3.4 Anti Lock Braking and Electronic Stability Control

    Reasons for rejection:

    A warning lamp:
    1/ Is missing
    2/Does Not Illuminate
    3/ Indicates a Fault
4/ Does Not follow the correct sequence of opperation

Just saying what I see matey..... I work on them for a living and have seen at least 10 cars over the last few months get through MOT with NO bulb lighting up. I am not saying you are wrong but maybe MOT in Norn Iron is different OR they are complete idiots in our government run centers ( probably the later of the two lol )

if there is no airbag light to be seen, then the tester has to look for signs the car has airbags fitted. the steering wheel would say 'srs' or something like that but may have been fitted later to a non airbag car. same goes for the dash as well, if that says 'srs' on the passenger side. so basically, to have a fail for no airbag light the tester would need to prove thats it does have airbags and the system isn't working, or have it written on his test sheet that airbags are fitted.
