hey all, i wana get my car plugged in and checked. i reckon its a faulty air flow meter. plus am having immobiliser problems.

i do regular manchester to leeds trips. at least once a week (return trips) and them hills kill my power. its all fine until i hit (wat feels like turbo lag) but its worse. its like i hit a wall of air. uphill my car struuggles but on the straights and downhill its good enough. the turbo works alrite around town so i dont think the turbos dead but my car has done 160,000miles

but i dont think the air flow meter is totally conked, otherwise i dont think the car will do 100mph+ (i knw, am sorry, it was an emergency of the highest order.)

i did notice a pipe that came out of its intended place when i had a look around the engine bay. its called a vacuum pipe appaerntly. connected to the big chunky pipe and box wit a sign suggesting its the ar flow meter or has something to do wit that.

i live 10miles out of manchester, any one know any decent places or maybe one of u lot could do it for me if you got the stuff at home? how much wud it cost?

its a 96' "P" audi A4 tdi (90bhp). it has the older dashboard wit the 4 big lights in the middle. i dont think these have engine management lights so i wudnt knw if there was a problem or not..

    any help is apprecieted.

sounds like an overboost issue, which can happen when the ecu cant controll the turbo vains. That is done by the pressure converter connected to that vaccum hose you mentioned. are you sure it in the right place?

You have a watsegate instead of variable geometry for boost control.

Make sure it is not full of oil, and that it is opening correctly (spring worn etc)

Also if possible, check for underfueling or bad injection timing, which can also cause power & boost problems.

96 models fall in the category of VAG Diagnostics and OBDII(?) cable. Read fault codes, reset values, as the engine mangement system might have dropped your power due to service history or lack of it!
