I'm wanting to get the brushed aluminium s4 wing mirrors for my a4 s line. I have read somewhere that the new oem ones are just painted the aluminium colour. I was thinking of painting mine instead. What would be required, just the paint and a lacquer. Can anyone recommend a paint. Also what about painting the chrome window surrounds this colour too.

    Thanks

I know on the Seat cars they are only painted but on the A4, they are brushed ( matt ) metal. I personaly think it looks dog poo painted. It looks too flat. If your gonna do it, do it right. If you are looking paint, I would look out for cars in silver color and whatever one that you are happy with, tell your motor factors

The new 8P S3 mirrors I fitted a few weeks back (some evil git kicked both the chaps mirrors off) were coated plastic but it looked like a very high tech process that I suspect would be impossible to replicate, it looked more like a shrink wrapped film than paint. I told him that they were coated plastic and we both agreed that the hundreds of pounds per cover was a little OTT. Then he came flying in a few days later all huffing and puffing that the mirrors I had fitted were fake as the Audi dealer had said they are aluminium and I was ripping him off. I handed him the genuine receipt for the mirrors and told him to take the car and the receipt to Audi and ask them to confirm they were not genuine and if they were not he could come back and we would take it from there, needles to say he did not come back.

Yes they are certainly plastic judging by the weight- they are the same matte finish as the roof rails on the Avant- painting to the same finish would be very difficult.
