  1. Some advice in driving a turbo car

Ok, I'm looking for some driving advice. I've moved from a 3.0V6 to a 2.0TFSI both engines have the same power and torque, but I've noticed that the 3.0V6 has more instant power when you planked your foot down from low down the rev range. With the 2.0T I have to make sure the engine has a high rev before I get the same kick from the car, does that sound right? I've never driven a car with forced induction before so I'm a bit of a novice, advice would be appreciated.

Its called turbo lag. When you 'plank' your foot, it takes some time for the turbo to spool (normally a few tenths of a second) before you get the thwack from the turbo.

The reason the na 3.0V6 has the immediate power is becuase it has higher torque lower down the rev range than the turbo version.

On mine I find the power tends to come in gradually rather than a sudden surge (except perhaps 1st gear) unless the turbo happens to already be spinning at a good speed.
Approaching roundabouts and changing down gears and using a little engine braking together with the brakes helps to keep the revs up compared to engaging the clutch and letting the revs drop to idle. This helps when accelerating when you can see the roundabout etc... is clear.

Also give the turbo a little time to cool down if it has been used heavily. Natural driving does this anyway but if you are going along a motorway and then pull into services slow down for a mile before the turning or leave the engine idling before turning it off after parking. This stops the turbo cooking the oil.
