    Hi,
In spite of what I am going to post, I actually really like my Passat.

I used to have a Mk4 Golf and liked it very much. Never a peep out of it. Ran like a dream. Went to a C class for a while and changed back to a VW to pay for the car and my MBA... anyway my Golf experience had me looking for one car only, a Passat estate. I found one at VW in Edinburgh, a 54 plate highline estate TDI 130.

Unfortunately I have had some serious, and some not so serious issues with it, and wholly unsatisfactory service from VW. List of issues:

o majorly creaky dash. Really bad. VW took whole thing apart and padded it out. Not so bad now, but almost unacceptable selling condition IMO. how did I NOT hear it on the test? (prob beacause I was so taken by that engine )

    o broken drivers seatbelt

o major grinding and juddering frum clutch

    o squealing brakes

VW claimed to have not noticed a clutch issues but "tightened" it all up. Juddering almost gone except when on steep hill starts. Also, when declutching from accelerating to change up there is still a bit of what feels like grinding, but not too bad.

However after all their work, I still have squealing brakes now developed at the front, and tonight my alarm decides to go off every couple of minutes. Pain in the behind since I am home in Ballymena so I will take it to VW in the morning see what happens. Also noticed something the other day as well, there is quite pronounced wind noise from the drivers side when all windows shut. Weird how I seem to have just noticed that too.

Anyway, just thought I would share some issues I have had. The list of things has surprised me since I bought the Passat thinking solid build quality and reliability. Still, got to love that engine.

    Great forum by the way.

    -Ste
