I believe 059 919 501A is the part number, replacing the old 078 919 501C number, not sure about the price here, but there are NI audi dealers on oempartfinder.co.uk selling them for £21.45 ex vat

Do it on a COLD engine.
Remove the pressure cap to release the pressure then replace it. change the sensor, you shouldn't lose too much coolant, top up with G12++

When I swapped the sensor and sender between my two ABC V6 coupes, ( one hot and one stone cold ) I found that a very usefull tool was " the wife ".
Bonnet to bonnet each of us positioned at the grill, sensor out , finger in, swap parts, still lost a bit of fluid, one was too damned hot to care about and the cold one was in need of strengthening anyway, but only about a litre lost on each. You can buy ready mixed G12 plus at reasonable cost.
    Good luck

Fitted new sensor today, no improvement in gauge position. Heats up to about high 80 degrees then drops back to mid 70's. Heater works great in the car as before.

Will changing the thermostat make any difference or any other things I should try

Is the plug in device on the bottom of the radiator the sensor/sender to the gauge/fans, as opposed to the items on the engine plumbing which send to the ecu
