I have an E reg ren 9 with 65k on the clock, i bought it a few years ago as my current car died, it had 59k on the clock then. it did cost me a water pump (£100 fitted) after about 2k. its in my garage now as have me a4 avant with 180k and still running like a dream. its all in the way you talk to your car

My 2001 130tdi manual Passat estate now has 225,000 miles on the clock. It was pretty fine up to 190k apart from the necessary 'ingress of water through the pollen filter' and the absolutely mandatory leaking rear washer pipe making the boot release fail. VW contributed to both bills as they are such common faults. At 190k I needed a rebuild of the gearbox (1300 quid incl new clutch and Dual Mass Flywheel), and since then have had broken offside front spring (£210), new nearside drive shaft (£200), new cat on exhaust (£210) and new drivers window motor and belts (can't remember how much?). So boys and girls, the lesson is get rid at 189,999 miles! On the other hand it could go on for years, still goes like the clappers and does 50mpg.

Mileage up to 186000 now and car not feeling as responsive as before.Going to try some fuel sysytem/inhector cleaner and see if that helps.
