I have a 2004 A4 1.9TDI which I think is fantatsic, but I have had a couple of issues with the interior trim.

    1) one of the hinges on the glove compartment door has broken,

Can I replace just the door? If so how do I do it and where can I get a new glove compartment door? (Interior is black, glove box is not lockable)

    2) the Ashtray in the central console has also broken and needs replacing. I have looked for a replacment but not had any joy, where can I find one?

    Thanks in advance

I'd ring up your main ******* and ask how much for the glovebox lid - they'll soon tell you if it's available seperately. It's only 5 (8mm) bolts to remove the whole assembly so it shouldn;t be too difficult to fit.

Replacement glove boxes come up on fleabay quite often so worth a nose as well. As for the ashtray, worth trying a breakers, look in yellow pages under "Car & Commercial" for 1-call-fina-a-part type people, you tell them what you want & they send a message to a network of breakers, any that have the part then call you direct.

Yep, me to! Glove box doors are hard to come by from specialist breakers etc so had to go the dealer route £79.54 + vat.... Brilliant.

To replace just the door take of the side panel of the dash by the passenger door and separate the door from the damper which is just a pin. There are then two pins located at the hinges... these are a little tricky to pull out as they seem to be glued in but using a small forked pry bar and a couple of whacks with a hammer they soon come out. They are simple push fit but glued on the ends.

    Jim,

They are simple push in pins but are stuck in at the very end with a glue or resin.

if you get a hold of the pin as tight as you can with a pry bar or even a set of pincers and give the bar or pincers a whack with a small hammer, you'll loosen the glue/ resin and the pins will just come out. They are only 2cm long if that.

I fitted a new door to mine rather than glue the hinge, so I just took of the old door once the pins were out, married up the new door and tapped the pins back in to where they had come from.

I had the left pin gripped on tight with a pair of pincers and wacked it good and properly like 5 times. Pin just did not want to move but will try prying them out later.

New hinge would be better but like to see if I can fix it first than fork out over 50 quid for something that shouldnt break so easily. Thinking of drilling a pilot hole through the hinge then glue a steel rod enforcing the part.
