Hi all. This is my first post so please be gentle. Aftter many years of driving Peugeot's I have decided to buy a Passat. I will be picking it up in a round two weeks its on a 55 plate and is a 2.0 TDI dsg sport model with Dynaudio upgrade and has only covered 50,000 miles with full vw service history .

Love the drive of the car and how solid it is compared to my Pug.

Firstly does this car come with xenons as standard? also auto headlights and rain sensitive windscreen wipers?

With reference to the hifi what comes as standard? It sounded bloody good

Anything I need to look out for on the passat?

    Many Thanks Rappy

The Passat will be much more solid and secure than your peugeot, i have a 55 plate sport TDI and i have rain sensitive wipers, auto headlights, etc but no xenons you would have to specify this when you ordered from new.
one of the things to look out for is a recall on the fuel pump, i had mine done for free by VW main dealer, you can always ring your local dealer give them your registration number and ask if the recall is required and if it has been done prior to you buying the car.
Another thing to look out for is creaking front suspension bushes, they aparantly dry out and can cause a creaking noise when you travel over speed humps / bumps etc, i have this problem on my car but its not bad enough for me to do anything about.
The standard radio / cd is called RCD300 but there are plenty of the rcd510 on the internet and loads of posts outlining how to fit them.
All in all i have had my 55 plate TDI sport for just on a year now and it has given me 10,000 trouble free miles of motoring.

Excellent. Car has full VW service history. But will check with the dealer if the pump has been changed.

Very pleased about the rain sensitive wipers as my pug has them and they would be missed.

Do you have the Dynaudio? Would mine have a 6 disc changer? Not had chance for a real good look at the cars spec just had a good drive in it.

Not sure then about xenons. I think it has projector type headlights. Anyone fitted uprated bulbs to the passat if so what size and make have you used?

    Many Thanks Rappy

I have upgraded my headlight bulbs recently they are a H7 fitment and i bought mine from autobulbsdirect.co.uk got a good deal plus free sidelight bulbs.
There are plenty of HID bulb kits on the intertnet but you have to be careful as people have reported that their wiper motors have blown after wiring in a set of HID lights.

I will stay clear of HID'S thanks for that. What make bulbs are you using? Also how easy are they to access on the passat?

On my Pug it ws very easy. Remove plastic caps and spring and bulbs pops out side/main and full.

Also how easy are fog light bulbs to change? On my pug you would have to remove the lower wheel arch trim.

    Many Thanks Rappy

I am using Philips Extreme H7's for main, Extreme H1's for dips and getting some Philips 501's upgrade for sides. I found them easy to fit, but some forumites may have a different story.

Remove the rubber cover, disconnect cable from terminal, pull out old bulb, push in new one (until it clicks), etc etc. Buy through Ebay or somewhere like autobulbsdirect.co.uk... cheaper than some other places

Also. My passat has controls on the steering wheel. noticed volume control and telephone on the left and a few buttons on the right side. I believe they are for the computer. Does the passat have a built in bluetooth phone connection as standard?
