Cut a hole in your induction intake pipe, and link it back to the throttle vacuum, if you can get some connector tubing, it should be easy to do. You may want to drill your hose with one of those circle cutters, i'd avoid cutting with a knife as it may ruin the tight seal you will need.

Dont cap it whatever you do, it will slowly kill your car

Pancake as in the big round ones like a hotrod would use?

I'd cut a hole into the bottom plate and seal it with a connector tube with a flange, run the pipe on to it (may need extending but doubt it - just make sure its not pinched). Are the top and bottom glued on? It would be easier to remove the lids and drill it unassembled to make sure you dont get metal shards sucked inside.

I know you can buy some with a breather attachment already welded on - ive seen it before when i was replacing my intake system

Your car will definately work better if the breather is hooked up to a vaccum as long as it has a one way valve, which I assume it would have done if you've disconnected and removed the old airbox.

Reburn that unused fuel, and if the rings are a bit loose, it may help to seal things a bit better. (Plus your pistons will have an easier downstroke in a negative pressure/vacuum situation - better low rev response) Along with removing the nasty acids etc (at least the majority of them) from condensing inside when it cools down.

It wont affect your timing, only scavenges the crankcase for blowby

been in the garage and done the work,it was an easy job.i cut the old breather adapter off the old air box(one end is wider like radiater ones where the rubber hose goes on sos it dont slip off with the clamp on)drilled the hole in the bottom plate pushed the bit of plastic pipe through so the wide end is on the inside(and dont pull through) then fitted the breather pipe on the under side with a clip.silicone sealed round the inside filter top back on test drive after lunch.i will let you know.thanks again
