    fuel filter ok? Air filter?

Are you certain this is a throttle position problem? eg if you have a 4 cyl car's fuel pump relay fitted, the rev limiter will be set too low.

There could be a throttle position switch problem? I think the NG just has an Idle switch and a wide open throttle switch. Not sure what the problem would be, but hitting the w.o.t. switch would seem to be having the wrong effect. Usually hitting w.o.t., the ecu gets a signal and no longer controls fuel mixture according to lambda sensor readings, instead fuelling is done by the metering head.

    Hi scotty33,

Yeah fuel filter been changed, Brend new K&N panal filter installed last weekend.
the car is fine right up to W.O.T
The car has only a genuine 52000 miles on it, was a disabled guys car, and all but the last 2 servces where done by audi.
So this is frustrating me somewhat lol
how would i know if it had the wrong fuel pump relay?
    TIA
    Dan

The rev limiter operates at 4 fifths of where it should be, when a 4 cyl relay is used in a 5 cyl car. So rev limit would be approx 5000 rpm instead of 6500ish?

No its not that then, revs well above 6000, that would have been an easy fix!

I think you need to test the operation of the idle and wot switches, it could be the case that at wot the signal is being seen at the ECU as the IDLE switch being made, not the wot. If this is the case it thinks you are on the overrun and shuts the fuel off. I don't know if this is a switch problem or maybe a wiring short? I can't think of anything else to suggest..
