    Hi
thinking of buying a s/h towbar and doing single electrics. It looks as if you need a byepass relay. Has anyone experience of doing the wiring. thanks mick

Yes you need the bypass relay, and there is a very good "howto" on this forum here :- https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...-towbar-thread with thanks to Ben.
One point different to what is on the thread is the location of the reverse light pickup point which is in the wiring harness over the rear nearside wheal arch. Wire colour is black/blue and the it changes to white at a juction near the wheel arch to get at it you need to remove the rear seat, the wheel arch trim and the trim that the parcel shelf rests on. It is all easy and only takes a few minutes just look for the blanking plate for the hidden screw near the rear seat belt cassete spooler dont force anything as when you have the neccessary screws out it is only clips which you can break if you are brutal.
Most people pick up the +12v for the relay power supply by clipping into the power socket supply in the boot, but I recently used this for tapping a power supply and it is very tidy and proffesional (use fuse 42 in the side dash fuse box, it is the cigi lighter socket)
