    Hi,

My golf has got problems with it's gears, the gear stick is very loose, i have no reverse and no proper first. When I put the car into first gear it starts in second gear, but I can't put it into second gear though. It is a 1997 Golf cabriolet, I think it is Mark 3 but not sure as I have only had it 3 weeks. Is the gear box gone or can this be fixed easily? If it is gone, can recommend where I can get a second hand one?

    Please can anyone help me?

    Thanx,

    Gina.

Again a big thank you for all your help and suggestions (not!) - yes I am being sarcastic. This was such as simple problem that other drivers must have had it. There was an arm that runs from the end of the gear shift barrel and sits over a ball joint on the transmission. It had simply jumped off when i was going over a speed bump or something. I saw it hanging down when I went under the car. This stabilises the gear stick etc, which was the reason why it was loose and I could get in to reverse or first etc.

Anyway sorted now. If anyone has a similar problem and needs a photo let me know.

perhaps in future, give it a bit more time, not everyone has every answer, just bear in mind this is a forum, it helps to contribute as well as coming on when you have an issue

bit more general courtesy, lot less sarcasm and you'll probably get a lot more help.
