    Hi All,

I have retro fitted the DVD navigation drive to my MMI and having a couple of issues. I have MMI and when I used to press the Nav button the screen showed "Nav not installed".

The drive came from ebay the wiring harness came from Kufatec.de and the disk is a 2011 copy (back-up), the blood sweet and tears have been provided by me.

So the install went well. Once connected up I re-connected the battery and turn the MMI on. Selected Nav and the screen showed "Navigation Initialising..."

Then "Please check navigation DVD". Disk out and cleaned but no change.

I have run a lense cleaning disk but no change.

I have used the car about three times now and the Map shows and works for most of the time. If I try and enter a destination I get issues. It says "loading list..." then sometimes drops back to the map or "Please check navigation DVD".

I have managed to entre a town (Reading) and navigate to center as I couldn't load the road lists and it shows a loading screen with ticks next to a series of options like fast route etc but doesn't go beyond this screen.

Having done some research I thought it might be the lense in the navigation unit so contacted the ebay seller. He is insistant the unit was working in his car before he removed and shipped to me.

The DVD came from a a friend who test ran it for three weeks in their car before sending to me.

    Any ideas from anyone?

The DVD drive is very picky about using home-burned DVDs. For that reason I would recommend using a genuine Audi disk, even if it is a few years old. These can be found on eBay from as little as 99p (there is a 2007 disk on there at the moment).

8th March = Issues as described.
9th March = Working fine, navigated to and from work (about 12 miles)
10th March = Tried to navigate to a different town and back to the issues described about.

So it seems like a disk reading issue so either the disk or drive.

I have another disk on the way but will get an orignal (either new from Audi or old version from ebay).

If this doesn't work it must be the drive I guess

The new disc arrived on Friday and initially looking promising as when I inserted it a message came up staying new version of software available click to update which the first one didn't. So I have updated and done a little testing but it was only for a couple of miles so can't quite tell yet.

I am able to enter the town and street lists much quicker but the maps would not appear. After a bit of time the maps have appeared so it might just need time to bed in.

I will keep on testing. I will also buy an orignal disc but depending on how this one goes I will either but a pre 2008 as a spare (cheap) or a 2010 version for permanent use. Brand new they cost £170 and release 1 every year! Ouch!.

    Well the sarger continues....

I have tested with two back-up DVD's of the 2011 maps and one orginal 2005 DVD and was getting intermittant issues. The longest it was fine was a 1 hour naviation where it packed up 2 miles from the destination

So I have taken the plundge and sent the unit off to headunit-repair.co.uk

The guy has turned it round quickly and should be with me tomorrow. His english is not get and said "I think this RW disc not good for the unit" and "the laser lens was faulty. I changed the laser lens."

    Fingers crossed!
