    Hi,

I have had this problem since buying this A4 but after one garage saying it was MAF sensor and replaing that and another garage finding 2 leaks in pipes and fixing them the problem is still there. NEED HELP!

Only just found out yesterday that this can be called "Hunting".

Only when warm and only between 1-2k revs there is a "hunting" "little rev" issue every 2-3 seconds. More noticeable when driving up hill and doesn't do it if you're in neutral.

Some help and suggestion would be great as I want to put it right asap.

    Many Thanks in advance

I meant was the part an OEM one, or a cheaper alternative? I say this because if it was the latter it might still be a maf issue. I wouldn't rule that out until you had a genuine Bosch maf fitted.

    It was an original Bosch.
Also I was told by someone after I changed it that it was stupid to do so as it can't be the Maf for some reason.
Before changing it I unplugged it and drove the car. The car drove just the same which made me believe that it was the cause but again I was told no that means it's not that.
Why do you think it's the Maf?

Because what you describe matches perfectly with elsawin's description of symptoms of a faulty maf. But if you've changed it for a genuine one, it's obviously not that. I'm out of ideas! Hopefully someone more knowledgable than me will be along soon

Faulty coolant temperature sensor = hunting idle.

A code read would help to diagnose any other issues.

It's not hunting on idle. Only whilst driving under load between 1-2k revs.
Is this still a possibility as I've noticed my temp gauge has been all over the place lately?

Does it drive as if (if it had one!) you'd forgotten to put the choke in?

Does it stutter/judder when you let off the accelerator?

Does the temp gauge climb/fall as your altitude changes?

Without getting the car scanned for faults, you're clutching at ideas, but to me, it sounds like the temperature sensor or stat.
