I ordered an A3 Sportback in December and I accept that these are popular at the moment and right hand drive cars are slower in delivery. But having been told June delivery has now slipped again this time because they have run out of the paint colour I ordered......

As Victor Meldrew would say "I don't believe it" !!!

I heard something the other day that the only factory producing certain pigments for VAG and other car manufacturers was hit by the Japanese earthquake and there is no other manufacturer producing them. What colours are affected I do not know, nor how long it will be before they are back in production.

do you really like a deep sea blue colour car? I know you chose it as an option, but would other colours interest you? I have owned a Mauritius blue A3, my dad had deep sea blue on his last A3, he now has a red one. i have a white one. Not because its my fav colour, but experience of ownership, Ibis white is by far the best. In my opinion. Deep sea blue on the A3 does look good, especially waxed up and passing as an oncoming car on a motorway/urban road. But stones chips, swirls and scratches show up very well. Just to give you this as food for thought.
All cars get dirty, they all get scratches, chips and swirls. Its incredibly hard to avoid all 3. There are ways of course to reduce them, then the typical owner of the colour in question. (avoid parking next to other cars, cleaning often, using a 2 bucket method, using quality car cleaning tools such as shampoos, waxes, wash mits, terry towels, etc, keeping your distance and avoiding motorways/busy A roads whenever possible.)

Colour is all opinion anyway. I thought I would just give you a heads up. So if you do have to avoid the said colours, white is a good one. And its free. So thats a few quid less a month on your finance or £550 back. Use it towards something else. I just ordered another white car. Def no hesitation on choice.

    Guys

I have a similar issue. The paint issue appears to affect a lot of the metalic colours and indeed this due to the earth quake in Japan restricting supply, according to my dealer.
The back order is going to be available from week 36. The build date for my RS3 is now week 38.

I ordered a Volcano Red one in Jan and picked it up yesterday!
In my opinion, the colour is awesome on the A3 Sportback.

4 months seem about average for most audi models. I waited 3 months on my A3 when I ordered it. But was estimated 4. So it depends how lucky you get with confirmed build weeks, etc.
