Morning all, I have recently bought an 1994 80 B4 Tdi Avant, and occasionally when i selected the indicators, all flash like the hazards. Now its doing it all the time.

The previous owner said its probably the pump, but i cant understand how the pump can make the indicators work as hazards. I have found some wiring diagrams for the indicator/hazards here but they are for the quattro and i dont know if theres a difference between the quattro body electrical circuits and the tdi.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

I would try a hazard switch first in elimination process. I am not sure what would happen
if you just disconnected the hazard switch, but it would be worth a try
    regards
    Michael.

    Thanks Michael,

I have spent the last 2 hours unjder the spell of google translator and i have found that the TDi and petrol diagrams really only vary under the bonnet.

Having traced the diagrams I also now think its the hazard switch and if i take it out the indicators should work ok. If not i suspect that it may be the after market viper alarm thats causing the trouble. Just need to find the box and work out how to disconnect it from the indicators. I am not to bothered if the indicators flash on arm/disarm as the warning light on the dash tells me that its working.

The factory option alarm plugs into the central locking pump I think, could be what the seller meant? I think the viper would probably be spliced in in this area?

Does the brief horn honk from the rear of the car as i lock it tell me it has the factory alarm fitted? and is this a common problem with it causing the indicators to come on as hazards?

My 95 avant tdi has the exact same , 2 quick horn sounds, as I lock the car. It has never made any difference to the indicators. And I dont know why it does it?
What made a difference to the indicators was the hazard switch, after wiggling it in and out a few times and spraying a bit of contact cleaner around it, It eventually made all the dodgey indicators and hazard light work again. Occasionally the hazards play up, but again a few in and out pushes with the button and all is fine.Just probably a weak connection. Good luck.
