Brake warning light..esp.. and abs coming on ?? when lights are turned on ?....

hi my audi a4 1.9tdi has recently started with this problem ??

when i start the car fine .. but when i turn the lights on the esp /abs and brake light come on and the brake light starts flashing ???

now.. it only does it now and then but more often than not dont understand it?

but i fitted hids about a month ago which i though it maybe them but it just doeesent add up please help....!!! ??

You would have to get a code read, but i have heard of HID kits without canbus wiring adaptors/ballasts causing this kind of problem. try taking the kit off and see if the faults stop.

Mine does it also and i have aftermarket hid's fitted so i presume its them causing the fault, i find if i click to side lights then click to headlights it doesnt do it. If i click straight to headlights in one quick movement they all light up everytime. What are these canbus wiring adapters?

I've no idea what's in them I know mine have them, just a box in the wire to the ballast. Mine interfere with the radio more than anything!

Sounds crazy I know, but are your brake light bulbs ok?

Both my brake light bulbs were blown on my A6 and iirc it lit the ESP/ABS light on the cluster.

yes checked every bulb they are fine mate

Id get the codes read mate. Is there anyone near you with VAGCOM? Its the best way to check whats causing it, aside from just unplugging your HID kit and going back to OEM to try.

I know this is an old thread but thought id share some info.... i had this problem and after reading several posts/threads on different forums i stumbled accross the cure

My nearside HID ballast was just under the headlight which interfered with the ABS pump which was not too far away, the simple fix was to earth the ballast to the body which shielded it and stopped the fault (2 month problem free).

So to all that have the ABS, ESP fault when turning your lights on, earth your passenger ballast to the body and enjoy turning your lights on without the dash going crazy ;-)
