It didn't come across like that, he was aware and open about the problem which he explained was down to the German mobile market operating differently. (I assume this was referring to dual sims being more readily available.)

I was also pleasantly surprised that he didn't suggest I change my phone.

Ive had numerous call backs from Audi dealers and Audi UK telling me that they are aware of it but there's nothing they can do. Even if it's a problem with the German market being different. What's that got to do with the cars they sell in the UK! We all know that the German market is different to the UK. Dont they drive on the other side of the road and have a different spec lineup in other countries anyway? The issue here is that Audi brought out something that doesn't work in the UK the way they thought it would but won't do anything about it to help their UK customers.

I think you may find the reason the uk market has restrictions due to hacking (the uk market has a problem so data protection can not be guaranteed with hands free )

rsap is more protected than hands free profile

Look a bit deeper into this and you will find this is the reason !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fully appreciate that (and very interting reading too a8 tech) but looking through this thread and talking with many Audi owners and Audi UK people too, it seems that most of us just want to be able to operate our phones hands free via the Bluetooth connection that we are currently using anyway and also be able to use a seoerate sim in the dash at the same time for the data services, etc. By only having the choice of one or the other on the go at any one time is what's frustrating most of us as even Audi agree that doesn't make sense. I suspect the fact that no third party company or trchy person has been able to come up with a fix for this means that it just can't be made to work the way we expected orcwant it to. Anyone that could fix it would be a wealthy individual by now - But we still live in hope!

I think that if Audi were doing this to protect us from the horrors of handsfree Bluetooth hacking, they would have a lot of explaining to do about their irresponsibility of making that the preferred way for most Audi (and indeed other VAG) cars to communicate with mobile phones.

Interesting to see that this is a UK market restriction, perhaps meaning that while it is technically possible to implement simultaneous HFP bluetooth connection and in-dash SIM use, Audi UK will not entertain it for reasons more to do with not opening themselves to legal action? If this is the case, there might be hope of a solution by recoding the 5F unit or changing module adaptation. This is pure speculation on my part, I must add. I just wish I could get my hands on a car from a foreign market to see the coding and adaptation values. I have posted a request on a US Audi forum to see if anyone from the US can provide the coding and adaptation values from their car, but so far no luck...

Perhaps I can start a class action for the insecure bluetooth low fitted to my A4?

So, the hack relies on most BT headsets having a default BT code of 0000. Yes, I can see how, if you know the code, you could then in theory pretend to be the phone that headest is legitimately connected to and intercept traffic.

However, the Audi BT does not use a default code, it uses a generated code, so probably not something that can be hacked very easily. Especially as cars tend to move out of range of the hackers darkened bedroom quite quickly!

I very much suspect that this inconvenience for UK users is nothing more than Audi not bothering to research the market - or, to be fair, whoever they bought the system off not bothering.

There are other regional faults with the car. Take for example the track pad in the centre console. It doesnt really work for people sitting on the right of it (unless you are left handed), but it works great from the passenger seat. Of course, put the steering wheel back on the side that the Germans designed it to be and it makes sense. For some reason though, I just accept this as I understand why it has happened.

What makes the sim card problem frustrating is that it appears to be something that could be fixed in the software very easily, but they are refusing to do so, or at least explain why it isn't as easy as it would appear.

I'm normally fairly anti this approach, as we shouldn't take our frustrations out on individual employees at Audi, however I feel it is unfair that you are all receiving different levels of care when logging this fault.

If anyone would like the contact details of the manager that approved my £2250 refund (£1500 for the MMI and £750 for a brochure misprint relating to MPG), please PM me.

    Good luck.

The sim card or dual sim card is the responsibility of the network provided and I think you will find they will not provide dual sims due to hacking

So the vehicle is equipped for rsap (and works 100% for approved phones) and if you use hands free profile you need a dual data sim provided by the networks who will not release them to uk users because of data protection

Other markets do not have the hacking problems so are more relaxed

Audi uk have raised customer complaints and Audi ag are in the process of developing a data sim protection to overcome the problem by working in conjunction with apple and other phone manufacturers however I have posted a working solution to re direct your calls keeping the data active in 3g zones and allowing 100 contacts

SO PLEASE CONTACT YOUR NETWORK PROVIDER AND SEEK A CLEAR ANSWER AS THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM CAN DO AS INTENDED BUT ONLY WITH A DUAL SIM FOR PHONES WITHOUT RSAP
