Ok so this is a well-documented issue with the 1.8T engine and sludge.

but . . . like many who have had the dreaded 3 beeps of death and the big red oil can on the dash I took the sump and pick up off to give them a little clean. Both were heavily sotted and clogged up but with the aid of a dishwasher for the sump and pressure washer for the strainer I got them all sparkly clean.

Now before I embarked on this wonderful adventure I had a local garage checkthe oil pressure which oddly was 65psi at idle and 95psi at 4k rpm and even more strange the oil can vanished from the dash and did not come back on for another 300 miles ? However, this time it came on every time I slowed down for a roundabout and then went out a short while after and sometimes just for fun(not sure that's true but it did seem that way).

So here is the problem, within a mile of driving with the new clean sump and pick up beep beep beep !! Checked the level and it was bang on. Drove a bit more and beep beep beep again. It seems to be back to where it was before I cleaned the sump. Oh and it all sounds lovely with no tappet rattles and infact it drives just as you would expect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
