Well I have just waved bye bye to my ’07 Passat 2.0 TDI SE Estate, as it’s gone back to the leasing company after its allotted 4 years with me.
In that time I can honestly say it has been the most reliable car it’s been my pleasure to own. There is a lot of bad press surrounding the reliability of Passats on the internet forums, particularly around the 2.0 TDI PD engine, what with faulty injectors, oil pumps and whatnot. But the thing to bear in mind is that for every bad car you read about on the internet there are plenty of other satisfied owners who don’t post about their good experiences. Hopefully I can redress the balance.
In the 4 years I’ve had it since new; I’ve done 122,000 miles and had to have the handbrake module replaced under warranty and a parking sensor. And that’s it. Nothing else, not even a light bulb. It is as powerful and economical now as it was when new, and it felt as if it had plenty of miles left in it.
I would average around 44 Mpg in mixed driving, and about 26 mpg when towing. It would drink about a litre of expensive long life oil every 5,000 miles. Its drunk oil from new and uses no more now after all that mileage.
Now that I’ve been cast adrift by my employer into the nasty world of private car ownership, I’ve gone for the only safe option I know, I’ve bought myself a Passat! A ’57 reg Passat Estate 2.0 TDI Sport 4motion.

Mine is an '07 Tdi estate with 81,000 miles and I can honestly say that since day one it has been 100% faultless.

By contrast the A4 I had before was in and out of the dealer every few months for four years for minor niggling faults.

    Hi everyone
I've read many scary posts on this forum since I've bought my passat in october last year and I just came back from second trip to Poland, done 2400 miles in one week, and only problem was airbag warning light which is a recurring problem in my car. It's my second passat and I think it's a brilliant car

Look under the front seat's, if the plug isn't secure or off it will put the light on, you need a re-set tool to get rid of the light once all connection's are known to be good, hoovering the carpets is to blame for it I believe, hth.

Cut the connector off and solder the wires together instead. No more problems then.
