Hi everyone. We have a golf tdi 90 se 2001. In dry weather there is an annoying squeaking noise coming from the front suspension. We have been advised (not by a mechanic) that it could be the wishbone bushes and it may well cure the problem if changed. Can anyone confirm whether this is correct or not and if so are they easy enough to change. Any advice would be grateful. Thanks.

Hi ive got a mk4 gt tdi 130bph and i was getting the same type of squeak coming from the front, i found it to be the anti roll bar bushes if you just oil them the squeaking goes away, there the ones that are on the sub frame

    Hi
Beware on this one. I get this problem every year when the summer comes.
I had my wishbone replaced at a cost of £120 and it didn't fix the squeak. Also, a few years back a VW dealer lubricated my anti roll bushes only for the squeak to return a month or so later. I'm just putting up with it now.

I recently had the same squeak on my golf v5.
I even took to buying a silicone spray and spraying the bushes and shocks in a futile effort to resolve it.But every time the weather became warmer, or after driving for 40mins or so the squeak came back.

In the end i took it to my local friendly garage and it turned out to be a broken exhaust bracket. They welded on a new one and lubricated the front bushes just to be safe. Best £50
i ever spent, the car is now so quiet.

    hi v5paul

i dont think it will be that hard to remove the bushes and grease them i haven't done that yet i've only just oiled them so far, but the squeaking hasn't come back yet, if you've got a haynes manual it should tell you in there how to remove and replace them.

Thanks for all the advice folks, really appreciate it. It's sods law that it hasn't stopped raining since I posted the question, but have oiled all the bushes and am now eagerly awaiting a dry spell to see if the dreaded squeak returns.
    Thanks again.

Have a 2001 MKiv as well and it squeaks like mad. My mechanic basically said the same thing that it was the bushes (he also muttered something about that they should have spent more money on them....). It does tend to go away when it is wet though now that I think of it. Surely something like this would have shown up when the car was being design tested originally??

My car creaked like an old barge. Changing ARB bushes and RH wishbone didn't cure it.

I finally succumbed to the dealer's senior technician, who diagnosed that the ARB and bushes would need changing. Apparently the ARB itself can corrode and the corrosion abrades. In wet weather, the corrosion turns into a sort of slurry which lubricates.

It is not a cheap job, but the silence is welcome none the less.
