Hi all, im due to have a look a mk4 Golf GT TDI 130 tonight, it's up for £8500, a 2003 52 plate with 54000 miles on the clock, full VW service history.
Is there anything in particular I should look out for ?

try a search thers loads of threads on here about buying a passat/bora/golf, they all share a lot of the common issues found. main things are smoke and turbo, if these are fine, not much else will go wrong.

also, haggle on that price, i know its an 03 plate with only 54k on the clock, but theres the mk5 now and for everyone you find at that price, there will be a dozen more at a cheaper price for haggling, pick as many faults in it as possible, any ding, dent or chip, even something as slight as a small kerb on an alloy devalues a car, check the interior for staining and make sure the rear washer works ive still to sort mine, 10 months after buying it

    Hi,
Price looks high is it a private sale or dealer?
If it's immaculate, has many options fitted, has good tyres and maybe a recent timing belt change then, in my opinion, it might be worth around £7750.
Check if it has had a new timing belt. VW say change at 40k but an independent garage advised me that 60k was ok. If it hasn't had a new belt then it will be due soon (costs around £230 with an independent or £330 with a VW dealer).
    Cheers,
J (previously owned Golf TDI 110 then 115 then 130 now a Passat)

Cheers for the info mate, I though the price seemed a bit steep, it's at a garage independant VW, What Car value it at £7930 dealer, and £7415 private. It has aircon and climate control which I think are standard on the GT TDI's anyway. I'll have to check if the timing belt has been done.

i just paid £9100 for 02 gt tdi [130] 34000 miles from vw dealership . belt should be done 4yrs/60,000 miles. try sitting in car on tick over and listen for any slight miss on engine, make sure your climate works properly,if i was you i'de try and get 12mths all componant warrenty with it, you also find vw dealerships put a grand on car and independant just under. but be warned if its mint someone else will buy it as they're great sellers, try and get them to do belt ect in with the price

Turned out to be a no-go, the garage refused to drop a penny below the £8500 asking price. The search continues !

IMHO evidence of pets and smoke knock hundreds off the price.

The search is over ! I managed to get hold of a GTTDI 150. 3 door in metallic black (the only combination I was after), 54k on the clock, full VW Main Dealer Service History, 12 months MOT.
Cost me £8500, which im thinking maybe a bit much, considering 2 of the tyres aint great and the cambelt/tensioner is due. But it was too good a oppurtunity to miss...I've missed out on 3 GTTDI's 130's in the last 2 weeks, because they get snapped up so quickly, so when a 150 came up in the spec I wanted I thought it's now or never !
