my wifes 2.0 GT TDI has started making a strange grinding noise driving over 50-60mph. It feels as though something is grinding underneath the car and you can also feel it on the floor in the passenger side front. Below this speed it drives spot on.
Recently changed the turbo pipe as it was split and was lacking power and blowing out a lot of smoke, this is now sorted!

Any ideas??? Sorry for the lack of description

Nice one. The mechanic confirmed its the drivers side bearing, hes going to get me a price tomorrow. How much should this roughly cost for the part and fitting???
also is it worthwhile to change the other side bearing or leave it??

    cheers

You dont need to replace them as a pair, but you might as well as the other one could die any day. Part is 10-20 quid, plus whatever the labour cost is. Migt be worth getting four wheel alignment done too.

hibbsy, got the wheel bearing done and the noise was still there, so the mechanic is saying the other sides gone too, so will be doing that soon. Also he charged me £100, he said the wheel bearing was £76 from GSF....

Where did u get quoted £10-20 from?? you had yours done yet?

    thanks
