I'm a newbie, just had a test drive with a view to purchase. Is it normal for the gearbox on a 2001 Polo 1.9 S TDI (68,000 miles) to be a little stiff/tight, especially going into 1st to set off? Thanks

    Hi there,

If you think it drives well buy it, Not every gear slides in.. but you should not stuggle...

Whilst we on the topic of gearboxes....

My polo, When idling out of gear and clutch not pressed it makes a noise like something is rattling, ONLY when i press my clutch back in the noise stops.

I have took the car to VW, one dealer said it was "idle teeth chatter" (Which they claim is normal on some cars)

The other said the gearbox could be loose, and to remove parts to check if it was "driver error" it would cost me £350 labour.

Im totally stuck what to do... The car is under warranty...

Any ideas guys would be great.
