    Hi,
I bought my wife 53 plate Polo a couple of weeks ago which came with the Beta stereo, and the storage tray. I bought a vw in dash cd changer off Ebay which plugs straight in, but is very hit and miss whether it works or not (Usually doesn't!)
I've managed to pick up an Audi glovebox changer from a local breakers for £30 in mint condition. It works perfectly as I've substituted the one in my mum's A4 cab to try it.
I purchased the lead from ebay to connect it to the stereo's blue mini iso plug. It powers up fine, lights up no problem and takes the cds as it should, but the head unit just displays a "NO CD" message, although it does know that there is a changer plugged in. Also tried my mum's unit in our Polo and get exactly the same.
Is it just that the two units are incompatible, or is there any pin changes I need to do on the connectors?
Also, the breaker has another one in mint condition which I wouldn't mind for my B7 A4. I have the RNS-E unit, but no cd wiring. Which lead would I need for this application?

    Cheers,

    MMM

Saw your post in the Polo section.

At the risk of not sounding particularly helpful, it's probably not working properly because it was designed for a different system. You say that the wiring plug on the Audi unit is different to the VW radio's socket. This means that this is a bad idea.

With time you could probably get it working properly but seriously, why not just get the model that is supposed to be in there? Adding cables to audio stuff is not ideal because audio quality is lost with bad cabling/joins etc. Also, it won't look right. Having something with Audi written on it (I seem to remember the one in the B7 having an Audi logo or something) looks daft in a Polo IMO. They are on ebay for similar money or on specialist Polo forums in bucketloads.

Aside from that, it should plug straight into the RNS-E system but I seem to remember that these were mounted in the glovebox? Not sure if other parts would be needed to do this but no other wiring should be necessary.

Thanks for the reply Legendamongus. I think I must have explained it badly. I have the correct lead for the Audi cd player to the VW head unit. It plugs straight into the cd player at one end, and has the blue mini ISO connector at the other end which is what is required for any changer to be plugged into the Beta stereo. I was simply under the impression that the Audi changer would work in the VW. It half does, but for some reason the changer is telling the head unit that there is no cds loaded. By the way, the one I have just says 'CD CHANGER' on the front and not Audi. It has Audi all over the back of it though. It fits perfectly in the VW dash and looks completely right. Not at all like it's just been bodged from another type of car. It even lights up the same colour.

    Thanks again.

I was wondering if you could tell me what lead you have to connect the BETA radio to the CD player please? I have a 2003 Polo with the BETA cassette player and I've just bought a original VW (Sony) 6 cd player that will fit under the radio. What lead do I need to connect the units together please? I've taken the radio out and seen the 2 wire blocks that connect to the BETA and I bought what I thought was the correct lead to connect them togeter. It has a small blue block at one end with 7 wires going into it and the other has a red block. The number printed on the VW sticker says 1J0 051 445 D and also CD adapter and A7418A02.

Any help you could give me would be great as I'm usless with electric stuff but not to bad with a hammer! lol

    Cheers
