Hi Can anyone help me please. I know a common fault with the a4 is power lose and there are a number of posts regarding this but I need some plan english instruction as the terminology is lost on me.

I have a 2002 A4 1.9tdi which lost power a while ago and went into limp home mode. I have had a diagnostic done and it advised that the waste gate solenoid was at fault. Audi say that this is too much of a generalisation and advised to first change the Solenoid change over valve(1J0906283c) done this no change. Then they suggested to change the Pressure convertor (8E0906283c) done and still no change.

My question is should I reset the fault code / system each time a paer is changed or should it just work after a faulty part is change out. does the air system need bleeding. Are Audi just stringing me along??

8E0 906 283 C, no such number exists. There is 1J0 906 283C solenoid valve which is for the EGR control. The pressure converter numbers are 8E0 906 627 A (up to the middle of 2002) or 628 A (up to 2003 and 628 B 2003 onwards) and these are for the turbo. Which fault code are you getting, 17964 or 17965?

One of the most common causes to go to limp mode is the vains in the turbo sticking.
This will cause the car to send an overboost signal to the engines brain ( ecu ), that in turn sends the car to safe or limp mode.
Quite often the car will run perfectly for a short while on the next time you start up but will go to limp again soon after.
Some people achieve success having the turbo stripped and cleaned internally but it generally means you are needing a new turbo or have yours reconditioned.
    Good luck friend

Sorry my mistake. The converter is 8E0906627 A. Cant remember the fault code but will check it out again. The car is in limp home mode so do I need to reset after the parts are changed before to confirm if the affected part has been changed. Thanks for your help.

Hi Stuart, This all makes sense and sounds very familiar. Looks like I am heading for a new turbo.

    Thanks for your help.

If you are happy to do it yourself, take it off and get it rebuilt.
