Sorry chaps but I'm off, VW have let me down and I cannot keep throwing money at it anymore.

The old girl has now been sold (injector number 2 on the way out!!) and now I'm off to Ford with a very nice Mondeo Titanium X. Hopefully this will be more reliable (it can't be any worse), first impressions are good but time will tell.

It has been a pleasure and I thank you all for your help over the years. I'll pop in now and then to say hello

A colleague has a Titanium X Mondeo, and I must admit that its one hell of a lovely motor. Only trouble he has had is a seized rear caliper.

Hope you are happy with your new car

    Best of luck!

I had a *** X as a hire car for around 3 weeks, really nice car with the 2.0 diesel engine.

THe hire car i had, had full leather, DAB radio and a nice colour screen in the dash cluster.

When i jumped back into the A4 it did feel old, (which is was)

Ford has really improved their game over recent years, the new mondeo looks nice too!

    Hope you enjoy

    Rick

I've had five Mondeo's, four were great especially my last one a 3.0V6 GhiaX fully loaded, even had full electric climate seats which I really wish were in my Passat, lovely ventillated and chilled in summer.

The only one I had issues with was a 2005 Mk3 2.0TDCi which suffered from injector calibration issues that were a common Mk3 problem.

The Mk4 (2007 on) uses a completely different engine share with PSA though and is much more reliable although some over on talkford.org complain of light throttle hesitation.

I very nearly bought a new TitaniumX last year but wanted an Auto and the Passat was nearly 10mpg better off then. Ford now have the more efficient Euro5 engine in and the Powershift (DSG) Dual Clutch gearbox so will be a contender next time.
One thing is for sure you got a lot more with £24k on the Mondeo than £24k in the Passat. One other thing, the Passat will fit in a standard 16foot Garage, the new Mondeo will not, it's a big car.

    Cheers
