Audi A4 2.0 TDI Automatic Starting Problem's

Friday: - Car was working perfectly pulled up in the drive switched it off and locked it. Walked into the house thinking about the dinner that was waiting me. Joy unbound
Saturday :- With the dread of taking her down to do the weekly shopping I pressed the key button to unlock the car opened the door for her (perfect gent as I am) opened my door put the key in the ignition turned the key ignition lights came on and instead of nice purring noise that normally happens all I got was a click nothing else.
Have tried the following :-
1) Have had the battery checked and that’s OK.
2) Have checked the battery terminal for tightness but that the limit of me Audi technical prowess.The engine bay does look very impressive but have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing. I do know that swearing at it doesn’t seem to help. I do get a lot of tuts from the other half.
3) Have used a battery boaster to assist battery still no good.
4) Tried the spare key.
5) Have locked it and gone through a normal start up procedure. Still no good.

Other than a lot praying (not worked), plaster applied to the engine or cleaning the dam thing I’m at a loss of what to do next.

Advice would be appreciated.

The starter motor was the problem and a new one was all that was needed. Its an easy repair just take three valium plunge your hand into you pocket smile and hand over £600 to the garage. The joys of motoring are boundless these days with the price of diesel being around £7.24 gallon £600 is child’s play.
