Steering rack adjustment

I See in the haynes manual that you can adjust the steering rack to remove play from the pinion wheel

Is that true and has anyone done it

I do have some play in the steering when rocking back and forth and both track rod ends are new ish..

Any comments please

Yes they are adjustable. Are you sure the movement is not the tie rod inner ball joint. What model and mileage car is this. Regards Peter

Does it have to be accessed from underneath or can i get at it from the wheel arch...

Tie rod fixed my problem

Basically a garage had used to much heat to remove the track rod end as they can seize into the tie rod and damageing the plastic collar in the tie rod

You can adjust the rack but in most cases even the slightest movement of the adjuster will make the rack sticky in its feel at any point off of dead centre, making the car very odd to drive with no self centering.
