    Hi guys

I'm new to this forum and just wondering if anyone could help me out with advice, i was driving down the road on Friday doing 60mph when all of a sudden the coil light started to flash and the engine died, i lost all the the steering and the brakes, i was able to stop and restart the engine and all seems fine again, later that evening when i started the car again it seemed to idle very low (under 1000rpm) then all of a sudden shot up to 1500rpm one i trapped the trottle all seems to go back to normal. I then drove about 10 miles and the coil light start to flash again the engine died, this time the engine will no fire at all.

I have checked the fuel pumps and the fuel filter but have had to luck! i would be really grateful if anyone had came across this before, and could help!

    Thanks again

    Chris

You really need a fault code read to point you in the right direction. Without that it's guesswork.

Chances are you probably have an injector issue. Get the fault codes first.

    Hi Issac

Thanks for the reply, i hooked the car up to a universal diagnostic system that supported the b7 and it came back good with no faults, I've being doing a lot of reading do you think it needs to be hooked up to a vag-com diagnostic?

    Thanks again.

Could be the injector problem as isaac said or the injector harness. Common problem on the 170s. Vag com is probably best then you will know for sure. The symptoms you describe were almost identical to mine. I was driving about 80mph and the engine died with EML and coil lamp flashing. Managed to restart car whilst coasting and then about 30 seconds later, car died again and would not start.

There is a sticky about piezo injector failure.

Sounds exactly the same as what happened to my car last week. Chances are it's yet another injector failure of the 170 engine. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the parts are £470+vat.

    Hi andybloke

Thanks for the info, the injectors in the car were replaced 14 months ago by Audi dealership and the car has done less than 20000 miles since then, surely the injectors should last longer than that!

There seems to be no set time when these things can fail, hopefully as yours were done so recently Audi might replace the faulty one under some form of goodwill. Some people have had some luck with this, see the posts in the sticky thread about the injectors.

    Hi all

looks like you's were right, it was an injector, cost a total of 750 quid for a replacement!! here's hoping the other three last. Does anyone know are Audi still using the piezo injectors as replacements for there already flawed injectors????

Thanks for all the info guys :-)

I was under the impression that parts have a two year guarantee - or am I wrong in saying that??
