As title, I am after a set of heated switch for my seats, as they only work on 5 max.

How much would it cost from VW dealer?

Sounds a bit odd that both seats, both sides only work on maximum setting. Before you swap out the switches it might be worth doing a bit of detective work to see if the setting is interpreted in the CANbus system and something is going awry.

I can't imagine that a couple of rotary pots will be carrying enough current to power the fairly substantial heaters in the seats. I may be wrong of course.

I had a quick peek at a copy of a couple of the VW CANbus teaching primers I've got access to but there is nothing in there that tells me anything. Maybe someone with VCDS will know how to fault find it?

    Just a thought.

I doubt the switches are your problem. The system is very complicated. The heated seat controller controls heated seat regulators which control the temperature using feedback from temperature sensors. The whole thing is made worse because different control systems are used depending on the model. VCDS is the only chance for a fault find.

Appreciate for both your responses. I will get it checked through VCDS. I have to sometimes push the heated switch, with force to make it work on 4 and below.

Is it easy to take the surroundings of the climate control unit? Maybe I could check the switches out over the weekend. I will have to go sometime next week and get it checked.

I do have a voltmeter, do u think that will give me an answer on how much voltage there is???

Once again, I'm fishing a little rather than speaking from experience. I suspect that they are just rotary potentiometers rather than being anything sexy like Hall effect switches or anything else that will send a digitally interpretable signal.

So if you can get the switches out and disconnect them, you can use the multimeter to check across terminals for any variation in resistance as you sweep them across their range. Needless to say, they should both give the same reading at the same position. If they do, it's highly unlikely that you have any problem with them. You also can try the trick of pushing the dial in to to see if you can cause any variation or a change in continuity, which would account for the effect you see.

If you do not see a variation is resistance as you turn them then they are something more sophisticated than pots and I've just wasted an hour of your time. Even in that case, I wouldn't recommend checking for volts with them connected.

Investigate with the battery disconnected just in case disconnecting the switches with things live gets whichever control module is involved all confused and you make things worse. You get the same effect if you disconnect the airbag sensor with the battery connected and it has to be reset with VCDS.

In the B6 Passat, the heated seat switches are part of the climate control panel, they are not seperate switches. This, unfortunately, means that the entire control panel will have to be replaced if it turns out to be the fault. I think that may be the case as you say pushing the control panel in whilst turning the switches allows them to work on other settings.

As you have a sport, you will have the Dual-Zone climate control, which is part number starting 3C0 907 044. There are various versions of this part which denote the specification, such as seat heating, heated windscreen and aux heater. As i don't know what 'toys' your car has, i can't tell you the last few letters of the part number.

You can find used control panels on eBay fairly cheaply, perhaps £60-100, rather than dealer price of over £350 list.
