    Hi,
I have a 2006 A6 Avant 2.0TDi SE, and over the weekend it seems to have developed a poltergeist in one of the door speakers!
The passenger side rear door speaker is giving out a constant hissing and popping noise - even when the ignition is off and the keys removed! That door is where our baby normally sits, and I know he definitely hasn't spilled anything on it (and hasn't been sick on it either). That window is never open so its not like some rain water has got in and worked its way in to the speaker either. Has anyone got any ideas??

I don't know if the hissing stops after a while as I havent sat in the car for any length of time with the ignition off yet. But, each time I have opened the door over the weekend to see if it has stopped its still there. Obviously, I'm worried that this will drain my battery, or cause a short somewhere.

    Thanks

Have you checked for water leaking into the radio/amplifier (LH Side access panel in the rear) water leaking from broken screenwash pipe at the tailgate hinge?
It won't be a problem at the speaker....most likely the amp.

Same thing was coming out of my speakers and it was the known leakage problem of the boot's wiper. Water has gone in the amplifiers section and has destroyed them. Mine were all changed within warranty.

    Hi,
I had a look in the rear compartment last night but it all seems pretty dry to me, but I will have a more thorough inspection this evening.
I don't think I've got a BOSE by the way but again I'll do a double check this evening.
If it is caused by the wiper leaking, how much am I looking at to get it fixed as my car is not under warranty anymore.

    Many thanks

    Kev.

Mine was out of warranty too, but my local dealer asked for a free replacement from Audi Greece SA and was approved.

It was around 800 euros and I paid 50 euros only for the labour.

    800 Euros!!! Blimey!
You must have very friendly Audi dealers near you. I suspect Southampton Audi won't be so forthcoming for me, so I had better get to the bottom of the cause quick and shop around for cheaper quotes than that.

    Thanks again.

    This might help........

    Problem description
Permanent crackling or cracking from one or more speakers. The playback is affected with all audio sources (radio, navigation, CD, TV). The operation of the MMI works correctly.

    Cause
    1. Speaker wiring or a speaker damaged. 2. Fault in the control unit for digital sound package -J525 or its power supply.

    Production solution
Optimised control unit hardware for digital sound package -J525:

A6 with standard sound system (ASK amplifier): WAUZZZ 4F?5N 122791 in week 17/05
A8 with standard sound system (Harman amplifier): WAUZZZ 4E?5N 016600 in week 13/05 A6 &
A8 with Bose sound system: no change

    Service solution
    1. Check, whether the crackling occurs on one or on several speakers. 2. If only one speaker is affected, swap the speaker cable (left/right) on the control unit for the digital sound package -J525. If this solves the problem, the cause is either the speaker or the wiring. Otherwise the fault is in the control unit for digital sound package -J525. 3. If all speakers are affected, check the voltage cable and the earth cable on the control unit J525 for correct fit. If all plugs are fitted correctly, cross change and if necessary replace the control unit for digital sound package -J525.
