    Thanks AndyB

If it would just stop raining I can go out and get on with things!! Just one thing though; if a constant voltage should be maintained, is it better to have the battery on charge because if the engine is running for a long time is there a danger that the electric fan will come on and cause a big drop?

Is it ok to just use discs 1 & 3 so as to protesct the BT module?

I'm finding this process a bit scary

    Hi Piotrek,
The 3cd's for MMi high update (4L0 998 961) are for the updating of MMi high to the latest version 55.7.0
The one DVD for navigation update, updates the digital road maps data and language base. When I updated the MMi to version 55.7.0 I had already purchased the 2010 Nav DVD, it's possible you need a newer Nav DVD to enable the 3D view to work (unsure).
You have the cd's you need to perform the update of all components connected to the MMi.
I'm afraid your dealer 'might not' be correct.

From what I have learned here on the forum you can do the update while driving, as I did on my way to and back from work, stationary with the engine running or stationary with a battery charger connected. Just make certain enough power is maintained to the MMI.

If you use a battery charger make sure you connect to the charging points otherwise the battery manager/ monitoring may not pick up the charge just the drain!

When I updated I had just replaced the BT module (front seat out job!) as it had failed so I only used discs 1 & 3 without issue.

Nothing to be scared about, but that's easy to say after I've had a problem free update...

BTW I sent you an email....

    Priotrek,
I also felt nervous about the update but not as scared as that blue face!
I guess if you are going to update the MMi you just need to go for it.
As I have said I left the engine running and had no problem. Originally I was going to use a charger but everyone else just left the car running so that is what I did.
See no reason why you can't run the update without disc 2. If your version is 51.5.0 you only need then use disc 3.
If you have had no problem with bluetooth/telephone module then any bugs it might have are not a problem to you.
We are all rooting for you now.
Looking forward to the "I'VE DONE IT" post.

Your dealer is right, and wrong.

Every map DVD also has a navigation (only) firmware 'update'* on it. But it won't update the MMI itself.

    * and it isn't really an update. If for example you go back from, say, 2009 maps to 2006, it will still 'update' the navigation.

    Hi guys

So I ran the updates and came through but not without some headaches. I put a posting on earlier today where A8 gave me some quick and very helpful advice, however having now done a VCDS autoscan it's found some errors, particularly that it can't find the Control Head - module 7 !!!! This wasn't a problem b4 the update, also the language of the factory installed phone has changed to German!
There is also - can't find ABS, and a few others. Have also enabled the hidden menu to try and see the battery meter & oil level but I don't see them at all!!

So can anyone give me a clue please.

PS - I can see the SW is now 5570

The main reason to update I guess is for bluetooth updates to run newer phones. Gave me a cold sweat running the cd's, worrying about what problems I might be creating in my computer runs everything car. For me all went well and I think that is the case for most people but I have read a fair amount of horror story's too.
Get as much info as you can before you start (some times you need to run a cd twice to make it work). Follow the instructions (my instructions came from Boston Audi too). I left the car running. I'm sure you will be fine.
    Hi Pete

Where can i find a copy of these instructions? Thanks : )

    I haven't got the Boston Audi instructions on line but this is a better instruction leaflet to follow;

Take a look at this link from Gupsterg. Ignore the first part but the rest explains the process of updating and is a helpful read. It does remove the battery meter from your MMi (easy to put back on with VCDS). Some people have problem with the phone module but most times all seems fine. Mine worked OK.

Hope that is what you are looking for.

    Hi

Thanks for that. I was going to attempt this with the engine running, or is it better with the car on charger? How does this work, just put the key in and turn till mmi comes on without actually starting the car?

Also, i have been told by the Audi specialist who provided the discs, not to bother with disc 2 if i have bluetooth, just to use disc 1 followed by disc 3. I am on a 2120 system.

    Thanks again

    Hi,

If you have bluetooth run disc 2 twice, so you would be doing disc 1 once, disc 2 twice, disc 3 once...

If you do not have bluetooth you would be doing disc 1 once, disc 3 once...

I did mine with a recharger on the slave points in the engine bay (ref your owners manual) or Link:- MMI 2G Hi Update. Any issues?

People have done it with the engine running but I'm not a fan of that as when flashing you really don't want voltage variance,etc...

Empty CD changer use slot one... the MMI FW update will only update what needs to be updated... ref the screenshots in the PDF above...

    Regards
    G
