hey people ive got my best buddy sitting on drive but at the moment she' got the standard steel rims that she started out with 17 years ago. i'm looking to get sum new shoes for the girl but how big can i go. (i think the best question is how much is the bank gona let me go!) Anyway shes a standard 1990 VW golf mk2, and i would be interested in any figures that people can give me on rim diameter and width and what profile trye to have with that width because i dont really want to be changing the arches and having to adjust the speedo etc. the standard tyres are 155/80R13 with T speed rating and load index of 79 you probably know this but its got 4 studs and stud diameter of 100 (4X100) i'm not sure about the rim width though. so basically what have you got???
ps when measuring rim width what is the J for eg 15 inch diameter with a 7j width??

    cheers guys
    chris

Got to say he is right there and be sure that you choose the right offset cos its a popular stud pattern 4x100 you should only use between 35-38 when fitting 17" rims

As long as you downsize the tyres as you upsize the wheels, you'll be fine.

Yh i thought that would be the case. is there a scale to work out the overall diameter of the tyre or do you have to do the maths and add the rim diameter to double the sidewall width, or do you get the tape measure out???
