Having put fresh Contini Sport 2s on my A6 not long ago, the two inside ones are forming a stepped tread pattern which you can hear as a sort of "drumming", especially on smooth roads.

I've all four wheels aligned before the tyres were changed and it seems to be getting worse.

    Any ideas anyone?|

Are they fitted the right way? Ie, does the outside wall say 'outside' on it?

Having done a search on the internet, some people say to swap the tyres around and see what happens then.

    Is your car a Quattro?

I had a stepped wear pattern on my old Mondeo before my A6, and a good Laser alignment sorted the problem having replaced the tyres afterwards.

Thanks A6 Chris, they are fitted the rigt way round and I've had two goes at laser alignment and my car isn't a Quattro. I may try another "specialist" to see what they say, the last one said the wear wasn't too bad but he can't hear the nooise it makes in a normally very quiet car.

I may try swapping the tyres over to see if it affects the new ones I put on the nearside - that could be an expensive piece of trial and error.

What size of wheels do you have on? Have they been balanced correctly?

If you have 19's then there is heap loads of road noise. Even on a newly tarmaced road I still can hear some noise from the tyres.

I had the alignment done originally by Nottingham Alignment Services then by ETS Tyres.
