My Audi A6 3.0 v6 Sport has developed the following problem/s today: -
On starting the car most of the warning lights illuminate in the dashboard and send off an alarm. After a few moments they all disappear and the car drives as normal.

On switching off the car the warning lights appear again. The dashboard remains illuminated and radio remains switched on and even if I lock the car. I switch off the radio manually and lock the car with the remote locking. After a short while (approx. one minute) the alarm sounds until I unlock the car.

There is no open windows or anything in the car to cause the alarm to go off.

This all started today. Can anyone suggest the problem which I suspect may be a faulty relay or fuse?

I have since checked all the fuses which seem fine.

I now cannot lock the car by the remote or the key because the alarm sounds.

The instrument cluster continually flashes through various warnings in the driver display screen and the radio would play except I manually switch it off.

As soon as I switch the car on the warning alarm sounds but immediately goes out once I start the car.

As soon as I stop the engine the alarm sounds again.

The only thing that I can do to stop the warning in the cluster display and return the dashboard to normal is turn the instrument cluster left setting knob fully to the right and hold it there. Once I let go the instrument cluster illuminates with warnings again and the radio resumes playing.

    I also ran a VCDS-lite diagnostics as follows: -

Sounds like the instument cluster is on the way out.

Mine did this, lighting up all the time, funny noises, then alarm kept going off, eventually the immobilizer (which is in the dash pod) went and the car wouldn't start.

You will likely either need a new dash (£600 and has to be fitted by main dealer or independant with the dealer kit). Or you can send the dash to BBA Reman and others who can repair the dash pod, think it takes about 2-3 weeks to get it back though so no car whilst this happens.

I am a bit ocnfisued byt he VCDS scan, where are the other controllers? What happens when you scan address 17 Instruments?

I would first check that the terminals along the bottom of
the relay board are all tight. Also the plugs that go into
the back of the instrument cluster.

    Regards

The missing ones came up with the message "unable to communicate".

I could not obtain readouts from most of the other controlers that I tried, instead just getting a "could not communicate" message.

The battery of the car is now being drained also.

I removed the instrument cluster tonight in order to take the part number off it. At the same time the battery had totally gone flat because of the fault.

Having replaced the instrument cluster and recharged the battery I now find that everything is working as normal again.

Am I wrong to think that everything could have been fixed from a basic 're-start' or is this problem going to return?

I have lifted the mats and there is absolutely no damp anywhere to be found.
